1914: Synagogue site sold to the Canadian mission

Ten Chinese acre for 1300 units of Chinese currency

The Kaifeng Jews voluntarily sold the ten Chinese acres (亩) of the synagogue site to the Canadian Anglican Mission for 1300 units of Chinese currency at the time (大洋). This was the first time in over 700 years that someone other than the Jews owned the site.

Turned into a playground for the YMCA

Once the site's ownership was transferred, the land was drained of its stagnant pool; it was then cleaned and levelled. Part of the site was made into a children's playground as part of the YMCA facility.

Construct a hospital on the site did not materialise

Bishop White tried to persuade the Jewish community of Shanghai to provide funds for the construction of a hospital on the site of the synagogue; the Canadian Mission would run the operations, but ownership would be between the Canadian Mission and the Occidental Jewish inhabitants of China. However, an agreement was not reached.
